Bonaire
In 1979, the Bonaire National Marine Park was established, making the entire sea surrounding Bonaire, down to a depth of 75 meters, a protected nature reserve. As a result, Bonaire became one of the first places in the world where the entire marine environment was protected. Thanks to these early conservation efforts, Bonaire’s underwater ecosystem remains exceptionally well preserved.
Bonaire is home to more than 100 dive sites and is particularly famous for its easy shore diving. The island is rightfully known as the Shore Diving Capital of the World,with more than 60 marked dive sites that can be accessed directly from the shore. This makes diving on Bonaire both flexible and accessible: simply park your car, put on your dive gear, and within a few steps you’ll be gliding above a vibrant coral reef. Curaçao
Curaçao also offers divers a wealth of spectacular reefs, with no fewer than 65 officially registered dive sites. Like Bonaire, Curaçao is especially well known for its shore diving, making it an easy and accessible destination for divers of all experience levels.
One of Curaçao’s most famous dive sites is Tugboat. At a depth of just five meters (16 feet), an old tugboat wreck lies covered in colorful sponges and corals and surrounded by hundreds of tropical fish. It is an ideal site for beginner divers and snorkelers alike.
St. Maarten
St. Maarten offers plenty of diving opportunities for visitors as well. Most dive sites are located on the French side of the island, although the Dutch side also features several officially registered dive locations. In total, the island boasts more than 35 dive sites.
